Welcome to the Min-O-Qwe-Ke-Ga-Bwe’in Social Services Program section of the website.

The name Min-O-Qwe-Ke-Ga-Bwe’in means “creating a new path“.

Kenora Chiefs Advisory and seven (7) First Nations participate in the Min-O-Qwe-Ke-Ga-Bwe’in Social Services Initiative “Cluster Model” Service Plan and collectively deliver the Ontario Works Program, with funds provided by the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs and the Ministry of Community and Social Services.

In this model, the member First Nations maintain their Ontario Works designation and delivery both the financial assistance and employment assistance services in their communities, and while cooperating with the other member First Nations, they share additional centralized Ontario Works functions delivered through the Kenora Chiefs Advisory. The member First Nations are:

  1. Eagle Lake
  2. Shoal Lake #40
  3. Naotkamegwanning
  4. Iskatewizaagegan #39
  5. Ochiichagwe’babigo’ining
  6. Obashkaandagaang First Nation
  7. Asubpeeschoseewagong Netum Anishnabek

Effective April 1, 2007 the Kenora Chiefs Advisory and member First Nations are participating in a two (2) year pilot project of group delivery of the full Ontario Works program. The aim of the pilot is to evaluate the effectiveness and best practices of group delivery so that the approach can be considered for other groups of First Nations in the future.
