Aboriginal Healing and Wellness Program

Anishinaabeg Minwa’ahya’win Health Network

The AMHN was established in 1998 to create an awareness that strengthens relationships in regard to health.

Goals of the Network are:

  • Development of short-term health plans that address issues and concerns identified by Health Network members
  • Advocacy for member First Nations regarding health concerns and services
  • Research and data collection to support health initiatives
  • Act as a central communications resource for Health Network members

Community Wellness Worker

The Community Wellness Worker program is a First Nation based service that allows for a full-time worker. The purpose of the CWWs is to provide family violence awareness and prevention programming. Each First Nation is responsible for the recruitment of their CWW and meeting all AHWS reporting requirements.

The Kenora Chiefs Advisory houses a part-time CWW Program Supervisor that provides technical support to nine (9) Community Wellness Workers in seven (7) First Nations in the Kenora and Dryden area.

On-going Training

The Aboriginal Healing and Wellness Strategy provides a training allowance for all program workers. The Kenora Chiefs Advisory is responsible for the development of a training plan for the Community Wellness Workers and Health Manager.
